The co-organizers
Codatu is an international NGO that has been supporting cities and governments for over 40 years in designing and implementing sustainable urban mobility policies. It brings together a wide network of experts, public institutions and private stakeholders to promote solutions adapted to developing country contexts.
AMUGA (Abidjan Urban Mobility Authority) is the public authority responsible for planning, regulating and developing transport systems in Greater Abidjan. It plays a key role in structuring the sector and fostering dialogue with operators.
The challenges of paratransit in Africa
Paratransit systems form the backbone of urban mobility across Africa, accounting for around 70% of motorized trips and transporting hundreds of millions of passengers every day.
In a context of rapid urban growth — with Africa’s urban population expected to reach 1.5 billion by 2050 — their importance will continue to grow.
Despite increasing recognition, the sector still faces major challenges:
